First, bearing fixing form:

There are three main forms of bearing fixing, 1, fixed at both ends; 2, one end fixed, one end swimming; 3. Swim at both ends.

1. Fix both ends

Common working temperature of the short shaft (span <400mm) can choose the simple two ends of the one-way fixed form.

The fixed supports at both ends are generally composed of angular contact ball bearings or tapered roller bearings arranged symmetrically. One of the rings of the bearing is adjusted axially during installation until appropriate clearance is obtained or the required preload is obtained.

2, one end fixed, one end swimming

When the shaft is long or the working temperature is high, because of the large amount of expansion, it is appropriate to choose one end fixed, one end swimming form, in order to ensure the free expansion of the shaft. (It can eliminate the adverse effects and damage caused by thermal expansion and contraction.)

Due to manufacturing errors, the distance between the center of the shaft supported by two centripetal bearings and the center of the bearing seat is usually not exactly equal, and the increase of working temperature will also change this distance, so it is necessary to travel bearings to compensate for this error.

Type N and NU cylindrical roller bearings are ideal walking bearings. The roller and cage of this type of bearings can be moved in the raceway in the bearing unflanged ring. Other types of bearings can only be used as walking bearings when a ring is loosely fitted, such as deep groove ball bearings and self-aligning roller bearings.

3. Swim at both ends

It is an economical method to use two end walking supports on an axis that does not require tight axial positioning.

For the left and right bidirectional swimming shaft, the shafting structure with two ends can be used, such as a pair of herringbone gear shaft. Due to its own axial limiting effect, their bearing inner and outer rings and axial fixation should be designed to ensure that only one of the shafts has a fixed axial position relative to the frame, and the two bearings on the other shaft must be swimming, in order to prevent tooth stuck or the force on both sides of the herringbone teeth is not uniform. At this time, both ends of the bearing are not subject to axial force.
